Like many small business owners who work with WordPress, I came to this career on a winding path. After obtaining my BA in English from the University of Iowa, my first career was in foodservice marketing. I also earned an MA in Education with endorsements in reading and language, and spent eight years teaching all kinds of English classes to junior high and high school students — creative writing, grammar, reading, literature, and more. Eventually I made a change from teaching and put my skills to work full time at my church, working with education and administration.
It may not sound like it all connects, but it does. Technology and design have always been strong interests, and I used and developed those skills in every setting along the way. I also learned a lot about the importance of relationships in any industry. Since 2013 I have been self-employed as a WordPress agency, and I’m loving every minute of it. Everything I did before this has helped to inform the kind of client-centered service I provide.
My office is at home in Winterset with my husband, Alan, who owns Group Dynamic (groupdynamic.net), a training and development company that helps people work better together. Together, we are Feirer Enterprises, Inc. We love to travel and spend time with our daughter, Mara. I also love to hike, read and listen to podcasts and audiobooks, and drink a lot of coffee.
I currently serve on the board of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, as secretary of the Greater Madison County Community Foundation, and as a member of the Candidacy Committee for the Southeast Iowa Synod ELCA. I was honored to be the 2015 Business Person of the Year for the Madison County Chamber of Commerce.
Recently, I have volunteered to be the co-chair for the Madison County Covered Bridge Festival for 2018 and 2019, which will be the event’s 50th annual. Wish me luck — I’ll need it!
